Untappd

While I always like real ale, finding the Untappd App encourages a wider search and experimentation.

You can read about it here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Untappd . If you want to join in, my user name is Guthroth

The List is Long Today

Following couple of walks, I've got three (well 4) pubs to talk about today.

First the Royal Exchange on Cornmarket. It's Ok, but not a posh place at all. Busy even on a Monday lunchtime.
Two hand pumps on the bar but neither working. The Smoothflow was cheap at 95p for a half of gas pumped but otherwise not a lot to recommend it.

6/10 because it was cheap.

Next door is another pub, closed at the moment, The Maltser. I will keep my eyes open and report if it re-opens.
Almost opposite on New Street is a totally different pub, The King Charles House.
Dating from the 1577 this timber framed lovely is a real ale oasis. The sign outside says that it was from or through this building that King Charles II escaped after the battle of Worcester in 1651. There were 10 real ales on tap, all from the Craddocks brewery, some different from last time. They also do great pies, have weekly quizzes and the upstairs room hosts the local board games club. Very little wrong with this place ! 10/10 !!

Finally, just up the road from where we are is the Brewers Arms.
It's small, cosy, child and dog friendly and big on sports. There were two real ales on display with a third pending. Overall, nice little local, I'll be back again. 8/10

Beer and Rugby

This morning we went out early - 7.30 no less - and walked to town to watch the England - Australia Rugby Quarter Final.
The Horn and Trumpet were open at 8.00 for cooked breakfast, beer and the match live.

Although it's virtually next door to the Cricketers, it's very different, bigger, longer bar and much more open.

Nice guvnor and decent beer. Breakfast was OK as well. Back next week for the Semi. 9.5/10

The Cricketers

Bit of a catch up today. Yesterday I popped into the Cricketers.
An average town centre pub, not far from the bus station. A few real ales, but best noted for the cricket memorabilia upstairs.

Mucky D next door might appeal to some. 7/10

Wetherspoons Everywhere

Next on my list is the local Wetherspoons, The Postal Order. Situated by Foregate Street station. It's a modern Wetherspoons with fruit machines and TV's. Oh dear Tim, what happened to the plan ?

Big and bright, long bar, the usual array of hand pumps, a typical Wetherspoons.

Because it's beer festival time, they are doing 1/3rds so lots of choice for £1.99 ! 9/10

Specialist Belgian Bar

Next on the list is another bar in Copenhagen Street, the TriplB Belgian Beer Bar. Also in Copenhagen street, in fact literally next door to the Oil Basin.

Completely different from the Oil Basin, much more continental in feel with polished floors, a large window and nice tables and chairs. They say they have 80 different Belgian beers available, some with strengths over 10%. They also sell in halves, pints or 'Schooners' - about 300ml.

Prices are a bit higher than next door, but the staff are excellent and a great venue for a different drink or two. Overall 9.5/10

Best is First

My first post is for a small pub with a brewhouse on the back.
The Oil Basin Brewhouse is a small back street pub on Copenhagen street with a range of beers, bottled, draft and hand pump. Plain wooden floors, simple decor and furniture, very friendly staff and first class beers.

The sign in the bar says it all.

Beers tried so far include -
Crimson King Cider, Lemon Dream, Hop Forward,Kashmir, Cherry Chocolate Porter, Flight of the Peach, Papa Jangle Voodoo Stout, Shropshire Lass, Beatific, Slap In The Face, Wintrip Milk Stout and Every Beet Of My Heart.

They lso have occasional quizzes, so this is a pub I will visit again. 10/10

The Beginning

All The Beers is a Blog to record my adventures in Pubs and Beer in the city of Worcester, England

I moved here in August 2019, and am delighted to be back in a location where pubs are on every street corner and the choice of ales is almost bewildering.

Hopefully, posts will be regular as I take on the onerous task of visiting the numerous pubs and enjoying what they have to offer.
